The keyboard sound is fuller here than on "Borderline" - Mills has a real Fender Rhodes - Madonna has a thin bell sound that's similar to the Rhodes.

I remember reading a David Foster interview in the mid 1980s where he said that they were always looking for alternatives, but it was really hard to come up with sounds as usable as the Rhodes sound. That's not too surprising - the Fender Rhodes still sound a lot better than any synth from the 1980s.

I'd forgotten about the "Borderline" connection here. I like the keyboards more in "Never Knew Love Like This Before." This is a joyous song. It always puts me in a good mood.
